Tips on Getting Grants, Funding, & More

As a nonprofit management I am constantly approached about grants and funding for community projects. It is important to understand that obtaining a 501c3 is half of the journey, we must establish ourselves through collaborations and ensure that we have our programs rooted in Evidence Based Practices. Often times when I am approached about writing for funding, the proposing organization is not prepared to receive funding from private donors or other organizations. If you are a young organization, it is imperative that you have your organizational structure set in place, with qualified volunteers in place if you cannot yet afford to pay for employees, a solid financial budget for proposed projects with a structured program.
Evidence Based Practices in programs are programs that have been evaluated and proven to be effective, in other words program measures that work and get results. If your organization is new or has been around for sometime and having difficulty with developing a qualified program, hire a consultant, not just any consultant, but a "Program Developer".  There are also plenty of books that could assist your establishment with developing such qualified programs, for instance Designing and Managing Programs: An Effectiveness-Based Approach (SAGE Sourcebooks for the Human Services) by Peter M. Kettner, Robert M. Moroney and Lawrence L. Martin is an excellent beginning. For more informatio
